About Piper

Piper provides advanced solutions for train navigation, MOW vehicle protection and railway safety.

Our experience deploying innovative solutions in the most challenging environments has given us a thorough understanding of the major pain points that transit agencies and freights are facing today.

We’ve designed our technology and platform to help solve them by providing highly accurate data of where trains and assets are in real-time, improving track worker safety, creating interoperability with legacy equipment, and improving speed of delivery for maintenance and signalling projects.

Challenges in Rail and Transit

Why use safety certified equipment?

You should be confident in the systems you are deploying, especially when dealing with vital rail applications. A Safety Certified system is designed around industry accepted standards and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. It also assists in interoperability. Piper’s systems are SIL4 rated, the highest SIL rating.

Challenges in Rail and Transit

The true cost of a MOW vehicle collision.

Equipment collisions are expensive. But they also result in those vehicles being sidelined for inspection, using up precious resources, generating bad press, and causing lack of confidence from employees. Investing in collision avoidance solutions can pay off in the long run for multiple departments in your organization.

Challenges in Rail and Transit

Track certainty for moving trains.

There are many ways to determine a train’s location on a track. GPS is a good start but it has limitations with signal interference and accuracy. On its own, it cannot be trusted as a method for determining which track a vehicle is on. Conversely, Piper’s multi-sensor system has an accuracy of less than 5cm; ample precision for busy train yards and work zones.

SIL4 Safety Certified

A fundamental requirement of any signaling system is safety certification to a CENELEC SIL-4 level. In CBTC, this vitality is achieved, in part, by meeting the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) functionality required for safe train operation as defined by the IEEE 1474.1 Standards for Communications-Based Train Control Performance and Functional Requirements.
