Robert Hanczor


Robert Hanczor has twenty-four years of professional software development and executive experience.

He began his career as a founding employee with Prodigy, the original online information service owned by IBM and Sears. There he developed innovative online marketing experiences for notable clients including American Airlines, BMW of North America, Merrill Lynch, and American Express.

Robert received his doctorate in Communications from the University of Missouri and later joined the faculty at the University of San Diego as a professor of media and technology. There he served as Vice President of the College of Arts and Sciences Executive Committee. Following an illustrious career in the classroom and with seminal research in the field of culture and the media, he pursued his first entrepreneurial venture.

He joined Miva Corporation as Vice President of Marketing – the leading online shopping cart service – and developed the first universal marketplace for merchants. At Miva, Robert led initiatives in payment processing, shipping, and web hosting. He helped pioneer transaction security protocols for online transactions and was a regular speaker at tech conferences on the subject of payment services.

Interested in pursuing new ventures in payment technology, Robert later founded Auction Checkout, the first eBay payment alternative to PayPal that processed transactions through sellers’ merchant accounts. adopted the service and the company was acquired.

Robert continued his career as a consultant to the ecommerce and payments industries before founding Uwanna, Inc. There he developed a platform for restaurant and retail chains to create digital and social media marketing programs.

Duane Maxwell


Duane Maxwell has been a serial entrepreneur and software developer since the mid 80s, founding, among others, Gryphon Software, developing the multiple award winning hit product “Morph,” and several CD edutainment titles for The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros, IBM, Creative Wonders, Saban, and several other companies. After Gryphon was acquired by CUC/Cendant, Duane moved on to start Launchpad Technologies with idealLab!, which acquired Internet industry pioneer Pointcast and became Entrypoint/Infogate, subsequently acquired by America Online, Inc. Duane also spent some time at Linspire, developing several open source applications. More recently, Duane was a cofounder and CTO of Chumby Industries, and the owner of Blue Octy LLC, the company currently operating and maintaining the Chumby Network. Duane has a BS in Mechanical Engineering and MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California.

Steve Tomlin has been an entrepreneur, senior executive and investor in the wireless technology, biotechnology and Internet industries for over 20 years. He joined Avalon in 2001 and concentrates on wireless, IT, media technology and software investments. Mr. Tomlin is a Director of, StackIQ, Inc, Proximal Data, Inc., and Uwanna, Inc.

From 1994 to 1998, he was a co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of PersonaLogic, Inc., a Web-based e-commerce navigation company that was acquired by AOL in November 1998. He remained with AOL through 2000. During 1993 and 1994, Mr. Tomlin was Vice-President and General Manager of QVC Interactive for QVC, Inc., where he reported directly to QVC’s Chairman and CEO, Barry Diller, and was responsible for all aspects of creating and managing QVC’s interactive shopping business. From 1991 to 1993, he was the Director of New Business Development for Walt Disney Computer Software.

Mr. Tomlin’s previous work experience includes investment banking at Shearson Lehman Brothers, Inc., strategic planning and business development for Castle & Cooke, Inc. and several new business start-ups. He earned his M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in American Studies from Yale University.

Wesley is originally from South Africa and came to the States on a golf scholarship to Columbus State University. He majored in Biology with a thesis in Neuroscience and Functional Genomics completed at the University of Florida’s McKnight Brain Institute. He worked in the medical field for two years before transitioning his career to advertising at a large full service ad agency, called Naartjie (Nar-Chi) Multimedia where he was Director of Digital.

He now oversees marketing strategy and brand identity for Piper, and is active in new business development. He also directs many deployments ranging from city-wide initiatives, to small business, to enterprises like McDonald’s.

Wesley brings a wealth of franchise knowledge through his experience being Agency of Record for several McDonald’s and Massage Envy Spa co-ops as well as national Carmike Cinemas. He has acquired experience in a multitude of other industries including; retail, health, entertainment, universities, tourism, hospitality, and real estate. He has been the lead person on multiple award winning mobile applications and website developments, innovative digital and social media strategies, and integrated marketing campaigns by utilizing a comprehensive mix of concept, strategy, analytics, and design.

He also sits on several boards for local and national organizations, including the NCAA Golf awards: The Fred Haskins Award and The Annika Sorenstam Award.

Ken is an entrepreneur, technology executive and seasoned software engineer with 20 years of product development and leadership experience.

He began his professional career at IBM Research where he was given the opportunity to dive into a wide array of technologies; his experiences there ultimately led him to pursue network security. Ken spent the next decade of his career in the computer security industry, focusing on intrusion detection and prevention, vulnerability research and exploit analysis for McAfee, Nokia and Intrusion Inc.

Ken went on to co-found Chumby Industries, a company that helped create a new category of ambient consumer electronics. At Chumby, Ken was responsible for client architecture for Chumby and Chumby-powered products (for Sony and Best Buy) which sold several hundred thousand devices.

Most recently, Ken led multiple software engineering teams for embedded and mobile devices at M-GO (Technicolor/DreamWorks Animation joint venture), a streaming Video on Demand service, and successfully shipped applications to millions of devices across Vizio and Samsung Smart TV and set-top-box product lines.

Tim has worked in digital agencies as a front end developer for many large and notable clients. Agencies like EuroRSCG and Momentum Design Lab kept Tim busy where he performed tech lead, Development, and technical project management for some companies like Genentech, EA, Facebook, Success Factors, Macy’s, Travelsmith & Walmart Labs.

Tim is also versatile. An accomplished engineer and coder he has been focusing on Front-end UX/UI development for over 10yrs after transitioning from a Web/Interactive designer. His knowledge of Front-end coding languages extends beyond just HTML5/CSS and straight JavaScript. Tim has had extensive experience creating web apps with libraries such as jQuery, YUI, Prototype, and EXT/Sencha, which being an early adopter of EXT helped create a relationship with the main development team that lead to Momentum Design Lab becoming a preferred business partner.
